Russell has been teaching horsemanship clinics and starting young horses professionally since 1999. Starting as one of Pat Parelli's apprentices in Colorado Russell has continued his education with other great horsemen such as Buck Brannaman and Martin Black. To date he has taught in 18 different countries and started young horses on four continents.
In New Zealand Russell has been a clinician and in the night shows at Equidays and Equitana Auckland, judged the Kaimanawa Challenge at Horse of the Year Show and had had horsemanship articles published in the NZ Horse and Pony and Natural Horse Management magazines.
Ruth owns and runs Brumby Farm Horsemanship Centre with Russell. She has had horses all her life and became a full-time professional Instructor in 2009. Until then she had a career in Airport Management and more recently ran her own Aviation Security Consultancy business.
Ruth teaches clinics with Russell all over New Zealand and the World providing her specialist expertise in horse psychology and learning, healthy movement and rider posture, and saddle comfort. She also teaches privately and takes horses for foundation training.
Ruth's main horse, Denis, is a Holsteiner x TB and half brother to Russell's horse Maxwell.
Meet The Herd
Oscar is the oldest of the herd and has earned his retirement after being Russell's main teaching and demo horse for many years. He is a Selle Francaise x TB.
Maverick is an Andalusian x TB who at 19 is still Russell's main demo and saddle horse. He is Russell's trusted partner in starting the young horses and much to his dismay he won't be able to retire until one of the young ones can fill his shoes.
Maxwell is an 8 year old Holsteiner x TB who Russell bought as a four year old from Allander Acres Sportshorses. He is progressing through his foundation training and has already been part of Russell's demo team for Equitana Auckland in 2017.
Denis is Ruth's main horse and is Maxwell's half brother, so also a Holsteiner x TB and the same age. He is also completing his foundation but showing talent for jumping.
Cassidy is a purebred Lusitano from Mystery Creek Lusitanos here in the Waikato. He is the youngest member of the herd at seven and is developing into a replacement saddle horse for Russell. His his eye-catching looks and high spirit have made him a favourite at demos.
Donald & Sullivan
Donald and Sullivan are the resident goats who free-range around the place pretty much doing whatever they want. Lovely boys but we don't have one unchewed bridle!
